Emotional Healing

The ministry of Jesus included the healing of our broken hearts. In Luke chapter four, Jesus is in a temple reading from the book of Isaiah. In verses 18 and 19 He says, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.”

Part of the work or ministry of Jesus is “to heal the brokenhearted.” The word brokenhearted refers to how we can be hurt or broken in our thoughts, feelings or emotions. It means the circumstances and events of life that can hurt us and break our hearts. Our hearts are broken in any memory where there is emotional pain or negative emotions. Our hearts are broken in any situation where there is anger, resentment, hatred, unforgiveness or bitterness. Our hearts are also broken in any memory where there is shame, guilt, regret or sorrow.

Jesus has provided the means by which our broken hearts can be healed. We do not have to live in the bondage of these negative emotions. Jesus has provided a way by which we can be healed from our negative emotions from the past, in the present and in the future.

His healing is found in the principles of repentance and forgiveness. When we choose to forgive those who have hurt us in any way, the anger, hatred, resentment and bitterness is removed from the old memories. We can also choose to forgive what is happening today and purpose to choose to forgive what will happen tomorrow.

Repentance will free you from all the shame, guilt, regret, and sorrow in your memories. When we repent, Jesus is faithful to cleanse us and make us clean. When He forgives He forgets about our sins.

Forgiveness sets you free from the bondage of the negative emotions. It does not set the person who hurt you free. Every one will answer to God for their sins. God is just and fair, and every evil act will be answered for.

My book Biblical Foundations of Freedom identifies many different negative emotions and demonstrates how to find healing and victory.
